The Knowledge hub

Continuing our tradition of excellence

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is the state’s leading high performance sport environment. It supports Queensland’s elite athletes through access to expert knowledge, high performance coaching as well as specialist support services and world class facilities.

Since its first representation at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, athletes supported by the QAS have succeeded in bringing home a total of 233* medals from each of the Olympic campaigns, 132* medals from Paralympic campaigns and 324* medals from Commonwealth Games events.

We are very proud of the efforts of our athletes and also that of the coaches, support staff and network providers who often work tirelessly behind-the-scenes to get them there.

It is not only essential for our staff to work alongside our athletes to help them reach their optimum performance level at the right time, but also to assist them through injury, aid in recovery, test and give feedback, develop innovative training techniques and everything in between.

The QAS is moving ahead in its objective to be the place where athletes, industry partners and experts in their field come to seek out knowledge, best practice and inspiration.

With leaders in the areas of physical performance, performance science, performance health, personal development and in our Centre of Excellence for Applied Sport Science Research, there is nothing holding us back.

These areas of expertise are not the only ones the QAS aims to champion.

Community Engagement

In 2017 we have re-evaluated our commitment to supporting issues that matter to the QAS, the state and on a national level.

Participating in meaningful community engagement is one area we can all strive to meet head on. The QAS is keen to become more active in showing its support of charitable organisations and its interaction with our communities.

We are committed to making an impact in this area and have also engaged with our partnering state sporting organisations to share knowledge and look at ways we can work together to ensure our presence is strong. This is one of many first steps in the right direction.

Keep an eye out for the QAS in the community. It is our aim to become more visible and we look forward to showing more of what makes this Academy so valuable in the high performance sporting arena.
