August 2008 - Beijing Olympic Games

The QAS succeeded in bringing home 25 medals from Beijing including 8 gold, 4 silver and 13 bronze which made up 54% of Australia's total medal tally.

Compared to Athens, the QAS has increased its medal tally by 47% bringing home eight more medals than we did in 2004, with the same amount of athletes (68) competing in both Athens and Beijing.

ATHLETICS
• Sally McLellan: Women's 100m hurdles
o 2nd in heats
o 4th in semi finals 12.70
o Silver medal in final 12.64
• Bronwyn Thompson: Women's long jump. Placed 17th in qualifying did not progress
• Alana Boyd: Pole Vault, 8th place in group (4.30m) Did not progress (16th overall)
• Mitchell Kealey: Men's 1500metres 11th place in heat (3:46.31), Did not progress (45th overall)
• Jarrod Bannister: Men's Javelin. Qualified 5th into finals, finished 6th overall.
• Dylan Grant: Men's 4x400m relay - did not run
• Justin Anlezark: Men's shot put 9th place in group (19.91), Did not progress (21st overall)

BEACH VOLLEYBALL
• Natalie Cook: progressed through to knock out round of 16, undefeated with partner Tamsin Barnett, lost to Brazil in quarterfinals - out of tournament.

CYCLING
• Anna Meares: Won 2-1 in best of three ride off against China's Guo
 Raced against GBR Pendleton in gold medal ride off, lost 0-2 in best of three ride off. Silver medal in Women's Track Sprint
• Jared Graves: BMX: 11th place after seeding runs. 1st in quarterfinal heat 1, 2nd in quarterfinal heat 2 and 1st in quarterfinal heat 3. Placed third into finals after 3 Semi final runs. Placed 6th in final after crashing
• Kamakazi: BMX: 15th place after seeding runs. 7th in quarterfinal heat 1, 3rd in quarterfinal heat 2 and 3rd in quarterfinal heat 3. Placed 6th after 3 semi final runs, did not progress to finals.
• Sara Carrigan: Women's road race - placed 38th overall. 3:33.25

CANOE/KAYAK - FLATWATER
• Ken Wallace: Men's K1 1000m event - placed 2nd in heat. First in semifinal. Bronze medal in final.
o Men's K1 500m event - placed 2nd in heat. 3rd in semi final. Gold medal in final: Australia's first gold since Clint Robinson in 1992 in the K1 1000m.
• Lyndsie Fogarty: Women's K4 500m event - placed 3rd in heats, claimed Bronze medal in the finals
o Women's K2 500m event 3rd in heat, 6th in final
• Clint Robinson and Tate Smith: Men's K4 1000m event - last in heat, 4th in semi finals, did not progress to final
o Men's K2 500m event - sixth in heat, 7th place in semi final, did not progress to final.

MEN'S ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS
• Sam Simpson: placed 39th overall in the men's all around individual competition. Floor 51st, parallel bars 66th, horizontal bars 69th, men's rings 63rd, pommel horse 47th.

HOCKEY
Men's Hockey - Liam De Young, Jamie Dwyer, Rob Hammond, Mark Knowles and Stephan Lambert.

• Women's Hockey - Teneal Attard, Madonna Blyth, Nikki Hudson, Angie Lambert and Melanie Wells. Out of medal contention

o AUS .v. South Africa - won 3-0 (Nikki Hudson's 300th game for AUS)

ROWING
• Philippa Savage: Women's single sculls - made it through to semifinals, placed fifth but did not progress to final.
• Sally Kehoe: Women's eight, progressed to final, placed 8th
• Sam Conrad: Men's eight, progressed to final, placed 8th
• Duncan Free: Men's pair, progressed through to final, Gold medal with Drew Ginn

• Stephanie Rice: Gold in 400m individual medley in WR time of 4:29.45 (Australia's and QAS's first gold of the Olympics)
• Women's 4x100m freestyle relay: Melanie Schlanger, Libby Trickett and Cate Campbell claimed bronze in this event
• Women's 100m butterfly final: Libby Trickett Gold (first individual gold), Jessicah Schipper bronze
• Women's 400m freestyle final: Bronte Barratt 7th place
• Women's 200m freestyle final: Bronte Barratt 7th place
• Women's 200m butterfly semifinal: Samantha Hamill placed 7th did not progress
• Women's 200m butterfly final: Jessica Schipper Bronze medal
• Women's 200m individual medley final: Stephanie Rice gold medal in WR time of 2:08.45
