Athletics
IAAF World Athletics Championships
• Sally McLellan won her heat in 12.82, qualifying through to the semis where she clocked 12.66, qualifying for the final of the women's 100m hurdles
• In the finals of the 100m hurdles, Sally placed a gallant 5th after knocking the final hurdle.
• Mitchell Watt won bronze in the men's long jump following a qualifying leap of 8.14m. In the final he managed 8.37m after his initial leap of 8.28m. 8.37m is the second best mark of his career

BMX
• Jared Graves has won four from six rounds of the 2009 4X World Cup Series to secure his place as champion of the series.
• Graves took out the 4X World Cup round in Mt St Anne, Canada wrapping up the 2009 title with two rounds still left to be run in the series.

Cycling
• Michael Hepburn stunned the crowd at the UCI Junior Track World Championships in Moscow when he broke the World Record for the men's 3km individual pursuit twice in one day.
• In the qualifying rounds for the 3km individual pursuit Michael smashed his own record from February (3:16.385) to clock the new World Record time of 3:15.743 and qualify first going into the final.
• In the final Michael stepped up another gear knocking another 0.157 sec from his qualifying time to clock 3:15.586 to take the title and the gold medal.

Hockey
• The Australian men's hockey team, The Kookaburras have won the Oceania Cup against New Zealand and Samoa- a World Cup Qualifier.
• QAS athletes Rob Hammond, Liam De Young, Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles were on the team that qualified for the Hero Honda FIH 2010 World Cup

Rugby Union
• Albert Anae (loose head prop), Jake Shatz (No 8), Andrew Shaw (No 6), James Slipper (Tight head prop) and Ben Tapuai (inside centre) were chosen as starters for the 1st XV Australian team that competed in the Under-20s 2009 Rugby Junior World Cup in Japan
• The team placed an impressive fourth behind some of the strongest Rugby nations in the world.

Swimming
FINA World Championships
• Jessicah Schipper took out first place and the World Record in the women's 200m butterfly with a time of 2:03.41.
• Christian Sprenger gave it all in the men's 200m breaststroke semi-final setting a new World Record in a time of 2:07.31, but only managed a tie for the bronze medal in the final in 2:07.80.
• Other medallists include: Cate Campbell: 3rd women's 50m freestyle (23.99), Stephanie Rice: 2nd women's 200m individual medley (2:07.03) and 3rd women's 400m individual medley ( 4:32.29), Women's 4x100m medley relay: 2nd Emily Seebohm, Jessicah Schipper, Men's 4x200m freestyle: 3rd Kenrick Monk (7:01.86)

Telstra Australian Short Course Championships
• Christian Sprenger set a new World Record in the men's 200m breaststroke beating the previous mark by 0.94 seconds to clock 2:01.98.
• Emily Seebohm set a short course World mark in the women's 100m individual medley in a time of 58.54, 0.26 seconds faster than the record set by American Natalie Coughlin in 2002.
• Jessicah Schipper proved that hard work pays off by bettering Libby Trickett's World Record in the women's 100m butterfly by 0.06. Schipper clocked a stellar time of 55.68

• Kyle Richardson: 3rd men's 50m freestyle (21.26), 3rd men's 100m freestyle (47.19), 1st men's 4x100m medley relay (3:27.65)
• Emily Seebohm: 1st women's 100m individual medley (58.54) WR, 1st women's 200m individual medley (2:08.09) AR, 1st women's 50m backstroke (27.03)
• Leith Brodie: 1st men's 200m individual medley (1:52.86) CR, 1st men's 100m individual medley (51.96) AR
• Black Cochrane: 3rd men's multi-disability 100m freestyle (59.22)
• Jessicah Schipper: 1st women's 100m butterfly (55.68) WR, 2nd women's 4x100m medley relay (3:57.24)
• Sophie Edington: 2nd women's 4x100m medley relay (3:57.24)
•  Mikkayla Maselli-Sheridan: 2nd women's 4x100m medley relay (3:57.24)
• Yolane Kukla: 3rd women's 4x100m medley relay (4:04.00), 1st women's 4x100m freestyle relay (3:4079)
• Amy Williams: 1st women's multi-disability 50m freestyle (29.21)
• Amy Levings: 2nd women's 4x100m freestyle relay (3:41.36)
• Christopher Wright: 1st men's 200m butterfly (1:51.11) AR, 1st men's 4x100m medley relay (3:27.65)
• Nick D'Arcy: 2nd men's 200m butterfly (1:51.40)
• Samantha Hamill: 3rd women's 100m butterfly (58.27)
