June 2009

Canoeing
• Six QAS athletes have been selected on the team that will represent Australia at the Canoe World Championships.
• Ken Wallace will compete in the K1 1000m and the K1 500m events
• Jacob Clear will join partner Murray Stewart (NSW) in the K2 500m event, while Matt Urquhart will be part of the K4 1000m crew.
• Lyndsie Fogarty will compete as part of the K4 500m crew, while Andrea Wood and fellow QAS athlete Bernadette Wallace will compete together in the K2 1000m event.

ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup 3
• Ken Wallace secured his first World Cup medal over 1000m, claiming silver in the final of the men's K1 1000m event in 3:47.625
• In other finals, Lyndsie Fogarty finished fourth as part of the women's K4 500m crew, missing the bronze medal by two tenths of a second.
• In the B finals, Andrea Wood placed second in the women's K1 500m event.

Hockey
• The Australian Women's Hockey Team, the Hockeyroos, won the Spar Cup, their first international tournament since the Beijing Olympic Games.
• The Hockeyroos defeated Argentina 3-1 in the final in South Africa - QAS athlete Madonna Blyth was Captain.
• The 2009 Women's Champions Trophy Australian squad has been announced with QAS athlete Madonna Blyth named in a young Hockeyroos side that will compete from July 11-19 in Sydney.
• The Kookaburras won the Hamburg Master Tournament in Germany after defeating the home side 6-2 in the final.
• QAS athlete Jamie Dwyer scored a goal in the final and was also announced as Player of the Tournament.
• The Kookaburras defeated England in a two test series, 5-4 and 4-1. Jamie Dwyer again added goals to the total for the Kookaburras.

• Meagen Nay: 1st 100m freestyle, 1st 100m backstroke, 1st 200m backstroke, 2nd 50m freestyle, 1st 4x100m freestyle relay, 1st 4x200m freestyle relay, 1st 4x100m medley relay
• Stephanie Rice: 1st 400m freestyle, 1st 200m IM, 1st 400m IM, 2nd 200m freestyle, 1st 4x200m freestyle relay, 1st 4x100m medley relay, 3rd 4x100m freestyle relay
• Katie Goldman: 2nd 400m freestyle, 1st 4x100m freestyle relay, 1st 4x200m freestyle relay, 3rd 4x100m medley relay

Paris Open
• QAS Target Squad member Tessa Wallace placed second behind Leisel Jones in both the 100m (1:08.95) and 200m (2:29.29) breaststroke.
• Member of the QAS Swimming Gold Squad, Amy Levings placed second in the women's 400m freestyle

Triathlon
• Courtney Atkinson placed second in the 2009 Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series race in Madrid Spain. (1:52.14)
• He is currently placed third on the rankings ladder with 1137 points.
• In the third race of the World Championship Series in Washington, DC, Emma Moffatt placed first in 1:59.55, while Emma Snowsill placed second in 2:00.20
• Backing up from this win Emma Moffatt won the Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup in Des Moines, USA, in 1:59.46 picking up $200,000
• Emma Snowsill again placed second winning $50,000
• Emma Moffatt is the current point's leader on the ITU World Championship Series elite women's ranking ladder with 1840 points, while Emma Snowsill is second on 1818.

Water Polo
• Melissa Rippon, Kate Gynther, Sarah Mills, Bronwen Knox, Sophie Smith, Jane Moran and Kate Miller will all take to the pool as part of the Aussie Stingers team that competed in the FINA World League Super Finals in Russia. The Aussie Stingers claimed bronze in this competition defeating Spain 12-8 in the bronze medal play-off.
• Melissa Rippon, Bronwen Knox, Kate Gynther and Jane Moran will also tour in June/July for the Women's World Championship, joining fellow QAS athletes Sophie Smith and Kate Miller
• Hannah Robinson, Sarah Mills and Nanda Stolz will compete in the World Student Games team that will compete in Belgrade, Serbia in early July.
• Kelsey Wakefield, Ashleigh Southern and Stephanie Thomas will tour as part of the 18 and under Youth World Championship team in July.
• Emily Young, Ursula Talbot and Kate Miller will take part in the European Tour for the 20 and under team in August.
