Queensland sailor Joel Turner inducted into the 2015 Australian Sailing Team

26 February 2015

Queensland sailor Joel Turner was announced as the latest addition to the 2015 Australian Sailing Team joining fellow Queenslanders and World Champions, Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan.

The announcement can only boost Joel’s path to the Rio 2016 Games and comes after a great run of performances over the last few months.

Joel finished in second place at the ISAF Sailing World Cup event in Melbourne in December 2014 alongside his crew, fellow Queenslander Lewis Brake.

At the end of January 2015, Joel proved his worth at the ISAF Sailing World Cup event in Miami as he filled in for his own sporting hero, Nathan Outteridge (alongside crew Iain Jensen) and finished in second place.

Joel’s addition to the Australian Sailing Team highlights Queensland’s dominance in the sailing field and adds continued strength to the crop of 49er sailors in the squad.

The QAS is excited to follow Joel’s progress over the next 18 months as we prepare for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
