Sally Pearson's golden season

In recent years, Sally Pearson has certainly encountered her fair share of setbacks which have consequently hindered her athletic career. However, her recent glory on the track has undeniably reaffirmed her position on the world stage.

Having suffered a number of injuries and deciding to ‘go-it-alone’ in terms of her coaching staff, Pearson defied the speculation and launched her own gold medal-winning campaign.

The IAAF World Championships in London saw Pearson make a comeback unfamiliar to the world of track and field. Crossing the line in a mere 12.59 seconds ahead of fellow American and German rivals, Pearson earnt her second World Championship gold medal.

The following fortnight, Pearson took to the track once again in the effort to reaffirm her title as the world’s best and won the IAAF Diamond League final in Zurich.

The physical and mental toughness Pearson has shown this season affirms her mentality of “mind over matter”. Her performances this month have certainly offered a sneak preview for what we can expect to witness at next year’s Commonwealth Games.

Having the advantage of competing in front of a home crowd on the Gold Coast, Sally will undoubtedly be looking to reinstate her dominance on the track.
