Basketball
• 40 players aged between 14 and 19 will participate in the National Intensive Training Program designed to identify young talent ahead of the 2012 World Junior Championships. This program is a collaborative effort of Basketball Australia, Basketball Queensland and the Queensland Academy of Sport.
Cricket
• QAS Captain Ben Dunk scored the winning runs (20 off 30 balls)for the team to ensure victory in the Cricket Australia Futures League over ACT. The QAS won by 5 wickets at Allan Border Field.
Rugby Union
• Liam Gill has been named on the Australian Schoolboys squad that will travel to Ireland and Britain. He will be the tour captain.
Swimming
• Five QAS athletes will compete in three of the short course swim meets that make up the FINA Arena World Cup Series - Nicholas D'Arcy and Melanie Schlanger, Leith Brodie, Christian Sprenger and Jessicah Schipper
• Jessicah Schipper was announced as the Telstra Swimmer of the Year Award winner following her world record breaking performance at the world championships.
• Jessicah was also recognised by the swimming community and public voters as the People's Choice Award winner, with 5000 votes being cast. She was also awarded the Swimmer's Swimmer of the Year and listed as part of the Telstra International All-Star team for 2009.
• Schipper thanked her new coach - QAS Swimming Coach Stephan Widmer (who won the Telstra Coach of the Year) and her squad for motivating her to achieve her goals.
• Melissa Gorman was announced as the Open Water Swimmer of the Year, while Ellen Fullerton was announced as the Australian Sports Commission Discovery of the Year.
• Former QAS athlete Trudee Hutchinson was recognised for her service to the Australian Swimming Team throughout 2009.
• Other QAS athletes named on the Telstra International All-Star team for 2009 include: Cate Campbell, Kenrick Monk, Ellen Fullerton, Bronte Barratt, Ryan Napoleon, Melissa Gorman, Sophie Edington, Christian Sprenger, Emily Seebohm, Meagen Nay, Nick D'Arcy, Leith Brodie, Stephanie Rice and Trent Grimsey.
• Michael Bohl was named as the 2009 QAS Coach of the Year at the QAS Awards Evening
Sports Performer of the Year Awards
• Emma Moffatt (triathlon), Jess Schipper (swimming) have been nominated along with 10 other Australian athletes who have had an outstanding 2009 competitive season for the Sports Performer of the Year awards.
• Bernard Tomic (Tennis) has been nominated for the Young Performer of the Year award.
• The winners will be announced at a function at the Star City Casino on Wednesday 25 November 2009.
Triathlon
• Emma Jackson won the 750m swim, 20km ride and 5km run race at the Bribie Island Tri Series, her first race since the World Championships and a good lead up meet to the Noosa Triathlon.
• Emma Moffatt was announced as the winner of the prestigious Peter Lacey Award for Sporting Excellence for 2009 at the QAS Awards Evening
Water Polo
• QAS athletes Connor Arnold (KFC Breakers) and Stewart Greenbank (Brisbane Barracudas) were selected as part of the Australian Youth Boys squad born '93 following the national club championships in Brisbane.
• The Women's Water Polo program was announced as the inaugural winner of the QAS Sport Program of the Year award at the QAS Awards Evening. It was accepted by Head Coach Aleks Osadchuk. The award includes a $20,000 budget incentive for the program.
