The QAS4Schools program will give Queensland primary school students the opportunity to see and hear directly from their sporting heroes.

Prior to launch of the program, each athlete will participate in a tailored training workshop to prepare for their presentation at the school visit. This will ensure that age appropriate language is used, as well as ensuring the Department of Education curriculum standards are met.

Each presentation delivered will be unique to the athlete based on their individual experiences in high performance sport, while referring back to the three main themes:

  1. Healthy eating and lifestyle habits
  2. Benefits of physical activity
  3. Building excitement and anticipation for the upcoming #GC2018 Commonwealth Games

All Queensland primary schools will be eligible for the program and selected through an expression of interest process.

Options available for schools chosen via the selection process include:

  1. A full school assembly presentation
  2. Presentation for a designated class, or classes, depending on availability.

The program will be delivered throughout the remainder of 2017 and into 2018. The peak period for school visits will be the few months prior to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, where organisers will be attempting to reach as many schools as possible.

How can your school get involved?

Keep an eye out for more information coming out through your school or online.

Interested schools can also fill out the QAS4Schools expression of interest form (PDF, 1.7M) and email it through to the QAS4Schools team. All other enquiries about the program are also welcomed by the team, simply send through your query to

Legacy

At the completion of each visit, the school will receive one legacy item as a reminder of the QAS4Schools message.

The ultimate goal is to continue to inspire and motivate schools and students, long after the athlete visit has completed and well after the conclusion of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
