Centre of Excellence for Applied Sport Science Research

Erin Appleton 300

Building on the successes of the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), the Queensland Government established the Centre of Excellence for Applied Sport Science Research (CoE) in 2003. The primary aims and objectives of the CoE are to facilitate research and to communicate research results which assist the QAS to develop elite Queensland athletes, teams, and coaches.

The Centre of Excellence has three distinct functions:

  1. To facilitate applied research in the field of sport science.
  2. To provide postgraduate scholarships with universities in the field of applied sport science.
  3. To fund the purchase and development of specialised technologies to assist elite athletes.

These three functions are provided through strategic alliances with Queensland universities, Australian and international institutes and academies of sport and selected industry partners.

The CoE produces QAS Research News, a quarterly electronic newsletter aimed at updating its stakeholders and supporters on activities at the QAS. It features details of applied sport science research and collaborative projects being conducted with Queensland universities.
