Sport Nutrition |
Sports Nutrition forms a part of the QAS Sports Medicine section. The role of QAS Sports Nutrition is to provide services to QAS athletes that will enhance their performance. This is achieved by assessing eating patterns and then determining and addressing any specific nutrition issues or concerns athletes may have.
Each QAS sport has an allocated QAS Nutrition Network Provider who delivers services to both individual athletes and QAS squads. This is done in consultation with the Head Coach and in coordination with other sports medicine services providers.
QAS Network Providers focus on delivering services that are individualised and tailored to suit the needs of the squads. This may include (but is not limited to) individual consultations, practical cooking classes as well as specific lectures and workshops. These are focused around areas such as; use of supplements, recovery, performance, hydration and team travel including overseas and domestic travel.
The QAS Nutrition Network is made up of highly qualified service providers who possess a broad range of expertise plus experience working with elite athletes. The QAS Sports Nutrition Provider Network Directory includes professional summaries of our preferred service providers. This information has been collated to assist in providing coaches and other relevant individuals with information on the experience and skills available to them at the QAS.
To become an approved provider, individuals must, as a minimum, have completed a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, be an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) and be a current member of Sports Dietitians Australia (SDA).
To obtain further information on any of the providers or to discuss your sport nutrition needs, please contact the Sport Nutrition Coordinator (Mondays only - Ph: 07 3872 0156) or the Sport Medicine Administrator (Ph: 07 3872 0160).

Both new and returning scholarship holders have the opportunity to spend time with their sports dietitian to help improve their nutrition knowledge, application of this knowledge and ultimately their performance. The network also includes a number of regional dietitians to service our athletes based in regional Queensland.
The QAS squad/regional sports dietitian can give assistance to all QAS athletes to help meet their performance goals. In general this should include:

Other services that are offered by the Nutrition Network includes access to the QAS Supplement Program which aims to give QAS athletes access to sports supplements at a reduced cost.
