Child Protection
The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) holds a special position of trust arising out of the unique nature of its work in developing athletes to achieve their sporting aspirations. To ensure athletes are kept safe and protected at all times, it is imperative that QAS strives to establish, build and maintain positive relationships with athletes, particularly children and young people.
Therefore, the QAS has been working in partnership with Blue Card Services of the State Government’s Public Safety Business Agency to strengthen its policies and procedures around child protection.
In addition to its existing Athlete Wellbeing Framework, the QAS, through Sport and Recreation Services (SRS) and the Department of Housing and Public Works, has developed a:
- comprehensive Child Protection Policy and Procedure* that incorporates feedback from Blue Card Services
- QAS code of conduct for interacting with children and young people, and
- Question and answers for athletes that highlights QAS’ commitment to athlete wellbeing.
The safety and welfare of children and young people continues to be of paramount importance to QAS, SRS and HPW and the Queensland Government. This Child Protection Policy and Procedure will continue to be updated to promote best practice.
