27 February 2015

The Queensland canoeing team showcased the results of their hard work at the Australian Canoeing Grand Prix 2 held in Sydney from 20 – 22 February 2015.

Queenslander Bernadette Wallace joined the women’s K4 500 team and recorded a time of 1:32.51, the fastest K4 500 ever recorded in Australia, which is only a good sign for the team leading into Rio.

Fellow Queenslander Alyce Burnett and her crew finished just 2.38 seconds behind.

In the women’s K1 500, Bernadette Wallace finished in third place with a time of 1:54.25, ahead of Alyce Burnett who placed fifth.

In the men’s competition, Jacob Clear upstaged fellow Queenslander and World Championship silver medallist Ken Wallace in the K2 final winning by 0.32 seconds.

Jacob and Ken then joined as team mates in the K4 1000 final and finished in first place with 3:01.35 – just 0.71 seconds ahead of fellow Queenslander Jordan Wood with his crew.

The men’s and women’s V1 1000 finals saw Queenslanders take out the top position as Curtis McGrath powered through with an easy win and Susan Seipel winning the women’s event.

Athletes will now prepare for the National Sprint Championships at the Sydney International Regatta Centre from 11 to 15 March.
