Jake Lilley a rising star of the fleet

25 May 2015

The Road to Rio is proving exciting and successful for Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) athletes of all disciplines, and sailing is no exception, particularly for QAS scholarship holder Jake Lilley.

The 21 year old, who is currently ranked fourth in the world in Finn class, began the year with a bronze medal at the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Miami. Coached by Olympic medallist coach John Bertrand, he was the youngest of his class at the regatta and earned himself the moniker ‘Rising Star of the Fleet’.

Lilley finished 8th overall and won a silver podium position in Junior rankings at the 2015 Finn Junior and Senior European Championships where he was defending his title from last year.

With a qualification for the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Weymouth in June already under his belt, Jake carries a great deal of confidence going into his next regatta in Medemblik, The Netherlands from 26-30 May.

We’re proud to call Jake a member of the QAS family and can’t wait to see his progress throughout the year.

Good luck Jake!
