2018 Paralympic Winter Games team announced

23 February 2018

This week, the Australian Paralympic Committee announced the selection of 13 athletes to represent Australia at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.

Among them is Brisbane local and sprinter-turned-snowboarder, Simon Patmore.

Simon’s athletics career saw him secure a gold medal in his 100m dash category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and a bronze medal in his 200m sprint category at the London Paralympic Games in 2012. However, upon hearing that an upper limb impairment class would be featured in the Para-snowboard program for the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, Simon decided to make the transition and become one of only a handful of Paralympians to have represented Australia at both a Summer and Winter Games.

Following his transition in 2014, Simon made his World Cup debut in Landgraaf, the Netherlands and has since won a gold medal at the 2016 IPC Snowboard World Cup in Trentino, Italy and is currently ranked within the top five in the world in the banked slalom snowboard cross event.

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) has proudly supported Simon as an individual scholarship holder for the past two years and we are looking forward to sharing in the success of Simon’s Paralympic Winter debut.

Simon will be in action at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre in PyeongChang on Monday 12 March and Friday 16 March.
