2 October 2018

With less than a month until the Invictus Games Opening Ceremony in Sydney, the Queensland athletes gathered at Parliament House for an official send-off.

For the first time, the Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry, will be held in Australia. The event is for the sick, wounded and injured service personnel get to demonstrate how sport has abled their recovery and rehabilitation after serving for our country.

Queenslanders are representing 43% of a strong Australian team heading to the Games and for the first time in state’s history, we have extended our Bonus Grant Scheme to eligible athletes. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Sports Minister Mick de Brenni hosted the send-off and announced the grant news to our worthy athletes.

The QAS have been providing support and knowledge to our Invictus athletes in preparation for the Games and their rehabilitation and we are excited to be able to extend our support in form of a $2,700 grant. The grant will help the eligible servicemen and women in the lead up to the event and afterwards.

The Invictus Games begin on 20 October in Sydney. We wish the Australian team the best of luck!
