QAS Yearbook

2017 'The Year that was'

'The Year that was' 2017 (PDF, 3.0M) at the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) shows what goes into assisting the success of Queensland’s elite sporting talent.

Evidently, 2017 was a fantastic sporting year with Queensland athletes showing dominance around the world while getting ready for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on home turf. Throughout the year, 15 QAS athletes earned themselves the title ‘World Champion’, with kayaker Alyce Burnett leading the way who also won the Peter Lacey Award for Sporting Excellence. These and many more outstanding results embodied the ambition and relentless determination of Queensland’s elite sporting talent and support systems in the lead up to the Games.

The QAS aims for a holistic approach to operation, not only through athletes and coaches but also including the services and personnel behind the achievements of the individuals. This is evident in the outstanding commitment and cooperation of our staff from the different areas such as Physical Performance, Performance Science, Personal Development, High Performance Management, and alike. Combined with top-notch facilities, the Academy strives to create the best possible conditions for athletes to achieve their dreams, on and off the field.
