Queensland athletes winning medals and selected for national teams

QAS-supported athletes continued to shine this past week, producing medals, selections and strong performances across a wide range of sports.

Athletics – Diamond League Final

Liam Adcock leapt to third place in the Men’s Long Jump Final with a massive 8.24m jump, just 8cm off gold. With five jumps over 8m in his series, he looks to be in red-hot form ahead of the World Championships next month.

Hockey – Oceania Cup Selections

QAS athletes have been named in the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras squads for the upcoming Oceania Cup in Darwin (4–7 September):

  • Hockeyroos: Claire Colwill, Morgan Mathison, Tatum Stewart (squad), Jade Smith (travelling reserve)
  • Kookaburras: Corey Weyer, Tim Howard (squad), Joel Rintala (travelling reserve)

Rowing – World Championships, Shanghai

Two QAS-supported athletes will take to the water at the World Rowing Championships (21–28 September):

  • Erik Horrie (PR1)
  • Mitch Salisbury (Men’s Eight)

Sailing – ILCA U21 World Championships, Dublin

Queensland sailors showcased their strength on the world stage:

  • Isaac Schotte - Silver (ILCA7)
  • Eddie Reid – 4th (ILCA7)
  • Frances Beebe - Bronze (ILCA6)

Para-Cycling – Road World Championships

  • Paige Greco – Bronze C3 Road Race
  • Alex Welsh – Silver Mixed Team Relay (with Lauren Parker & Grant Allen)

Triathlon – World Triathlon Championship Series

Matt Hauser continued his remarkable season, claiming gold in the WTCS French Riviera – his third series win this year.

Rugby 7s – Next Gen Series

The QAS-supported Reds fought hard in Canberra’s 3rd round of the Next Gen series, showing resilience across three tough matches.
