Paris 2024 Results: Friday 9 August

A bronze for the Men's K2 duo of Thomas Green and Jean van der Westhuyzen. Maddi Keeney becomes the first Australian to win an individual medal for diving in Springboard securing silver in the Women's 3m Springboard. The Aussie Women's Beach Volleyball team finish fourth in the world. Peyton Craig makes an epic Olympic debut finishing 6th fastest across the Men's 800 metres semi-finals.

Diving

Maddi Keeney has won Silver in the Final of the Women's 3m Springboard diving event, behind China's Yiwen Chen. She is the first Australian to win an individual medal for diving in Springboard.

Maddi also came fifth with Anabelle Smith in the Synchronised 3m Springboard - an event in which she won Bronze at Rio 2016. The 28-year-old trains at Chandler under coach Ady Hinchcliffe.

Cassiel Rousseau, has placed seventh in the Men's 10-metre Platform Preliminary competition and qualified for the Semi-Final.

Canoe Sprint

Jean van der Westhuyzen and Thomas Green have won Bronze in the Final of the Men's K2 500 metre Canoe Sprint.
The pair previously won Gold in the K2 1000m event at Tokyo 2020. They train at Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast under coach Jimmy Owens.

Tom still has tonight's K1 1000m left to go in Paris, an event in which he won his Heat. Jean's Bronze follows his brother Pierre's Silver in the K4 500m.

Aly Bull, along with her partner Ella Beere, who both train on the Gold Coast under coach Renee Olsen, have finished seventh in the Final of the Women's K2 500m Canoe Sprint event. The race was dominated by the Kiwis but less than two seconds separated the rest of the field, including a dead heat for the bronze.

Beach Volleyball

Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have fallen just short of a medal in the Women's Beach Volleyball competition. The Tokyo Silver medallists fell 2-0 to Switzerland in the Bronze medal match.

Basketball

The United States has proved too strong for the Opals in the Semi-Final of the Women's Basketball competition, winning 85-64. The Australian team, featuring Queenslanders Kristy Wallace and Marianna Tolo, now plays Belgium for a shot at the Bronze medal.

Swimming - Marathon

Nicholas Sloman from Noosa has finished 11th in the Men's 10km Marathon Swim in the River Seine. His time of 1:56:24 was 5:31 behind winner Kristof Rasovszky from Hungary.

Athletics

Peyton Craig has finished sixth in his Semi-Final of the Men's 800 metres and 6th fastest across the three semis, making him desperately unlucky to miss qualifying for the Final. The 19-year-old from Gladstone ran a personal best of 1:44.11 and has made a great impression in his Olympic debut.

Queenslander Camryn Newton-Smith, who hails from Beaudesert, has finished 19th in the Women's Heptathlon with 5982 points, after the final three events on Day 2 including Long Jump, Javelin and 800m. Fellow Queenslander Tori West, from Townsville, came 20th in the Women's Heptathlon at her debut Olympics with a combined score of 5848. Belgium's Nafissatou Thiam made history by claiming her third Heptathlon Gold in a row.

Gymnastics

Queensland gymnasts Jessica Weintraub, Lidiia Lakovleva, Phoebe Learmont and Saskia Broedelet have finished 11th in the Women's Rhythmic Gymnastics Group All-Around Qualification and missed tonight's Final.

Cycling

Sunshine Coast cyclist Kristina Clonan has advanced through the 1/16 Finals Repechages in the Women's Track Cycling Sprint to qualify for Sunday morning's 1/8 Finals.

Water Polo

The Australian Men's Water Polo team, featuring Queenslanders Marcus Berehulak and Nic Porter has lost to Greece 15-9 in the 5th-8th place Classification game. They now take on Italy in the 7th-8th Classification game on Sunday morning.

Artistic Swimming

Queensland athletes Carolyn Buckle and Kiera Gazzard have finished 14th in the Women's Artistic Swimming Duet Technical Routine. They continue in the Duet Free Routine on Sunday morning.
