About Us

Established in 1991, the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is the Queensland Government’s high performance sports agency responsible for preparing Queensland elite athletes, teams and coaches for world class success. We are proud to be a division of the Department of Tourism and Sport, dedicated with a Vision of “Inspiring Extraordinary Sporting Success”.

We support more than 750 athletes on their elite sporting journey from talented juniors to Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship medallists. This includes the 41 Talent Support Plan athletes and less than 200 young athletes identified through the Youfor2032 Talent Identification Program. We also support both in-house squad programs, partnership programs with State and National Sporting Organisations, and scholarships for individuals on medal-winning trajectories.

As we look ahead, we’ve pioneered the 2032 High Performance Strategy that will turbocharge Queensland’s efforts to identify and develop talented athletes and coaches who can create more medal winning moments by Queensland athletes, fostering a sense of pride within the State and the Nation as we gear up for the Brisbane 2032 Games.

This strategy is the product of an extensive strategic review involving over 450 stakeholders from the high performance sporting industry and related sectors. Developed in 2020, the strategy has transformed the Queensland Government's investment approach in high-performance sport, implementing an evidence based, targeted approach to ensure the right resources are reaching the right athlete for the right outcomes.

Our Vision of ‘Inspiring Extraordinary Sporting Success’ is underpinned by nine strategic pillars (athlete journey, talent, coaching, performance support, partnerships, performance investment, performance data, business operations and people and culture). These pillars form the foundation of our commitment to offering world-class support systems to QAS-supported athletes, coaches, and sports.
