Aspiring young divers make a splash on the Sunshine Coast

07 March 2024

Twenty-three potential future Olympians showed off their diving skills at Kawana Aquatic Centre this week as part of the Queensland Academy of Sport’s (QAS) Youfor2032 Daredevils program.

QAS’ talent team worked closely with coaches from Diving Australia and Diving Queensland to test the skills of the young diving enthusiasts.

Alex Roberts, Talent Identification and Development Lead at QAS said the Daredevils diving program was looking for young people aged 8 to 13 years with experience in gymnastics, acrobatics and related sports.

“We were really impressed with the young divers that took part in this session and the level of skill and bravery they showed during testing,” she said.

“This program is such a great opportunity for driven young athletes to find their pathway and take their sport to the next level.”

Lisa Wright, CEO of Diving Queensland said the Sunshine Coast testing day was impressive with a good level of skill shown by the young athletes.

“It’s clear that we have a very strong pipeline of diving talent in Queensland and I’m really excited to see this next generation of young divers progress,” she said.

The Youfor2032 Daredevils program will run two more diving testing sessions on Saturday 9 March at Southport Aquatic Centre and Saturday 16 March at Sleeman Sports Complex.
