Birmingham athletes getting ‘Games ready’

04 May 2022

Queensland’s athletes and para-athletes are preparing for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games with a series of ‘Be Ready’ sessions at the Queensland Academy of Sport.

The athletes are getting valuable team and Games information while meeting other potential team members, providing their media bios, recording content for social media activities and trying on uniforms.

Some athletes are still completing their final qualifications for the Birmingham Games, which run from 28 July to 8 August 2022.

Australia will field its largest ever team to an away Games and compete in all 21 sports, being represented by approximately 425 athletes and 250 support staff.

The Games will feature 5,000 international athletes from 72 Commonwealth nations and territories competing in 286 medal events.

Queensland athletes won 45 per cent of Australia’s total medal tally at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The ‘Be Ready’ sessions, held at the Queensland Academy of Sport on 28-29 April 2022, were designed to provide athletes with the best possible start on their journey to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
