Five QAS added to Australian Team

22 April 2021

Five Queensland Academy of Sport supported athletes are amongst the newest faces on the Australian Olympic Team after the announcement at the Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney.

The Australian Olympic Team welcomed 15 track and field athletes onto what is expected to be Australia’s largest single sporting team in Tokyo.

From the QAS, decathlon training partners Ash Moloney and Cedric Dubler had all but booked their tickets in December after stunning performances at the Queensland Combined Events Championship and last night finally received their official status.

Genevieve Gregson (nee LaCaze) will head to her third Olympics after taking out the 3000m Steeplechase in Sydney.

Olympic debutants Liz Clay and Riley Day round out the QAS quintet in the 100m Hurdles and 200m respectively.

With less than 100 days until the Olympics QAS Chief Executive Chelsea Warr said it was a wonderful result for the athletes, coaches and their QAS Performance Support Teams.

“It’s great to see our athletes make the Team after a trying year with a lack of competition and challenges COVID has presented,” said Ms Warr.

“Through the expertise of their great coaches and Performance Support Teams, they’ve secured their spot for what will be a remarkable Games that will go down in history as a triumph for humanity.”
