QAS and Griffith University are helping QLD athletes shape their futures

In the realm where academics and athletics intersect, the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) and Griffith University’s Elite Athlete Scholarships program are fostering the dreams of elite athletes, providing financial support and flexible study options, ensuring that athletes can pursue excellence both in their chosen sport and academics.

Fourteen athletes recently donned their graduation caps, part of a cohort of 56 athletes currently benefiting from the program.

Among the success stories is Emma McKeon, 2024 Young Australian of the Year and Australia's most successful Olympian. Emma trained at the Griffith Swim Club and completed her Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion degree in 2021, showcasing the program's ability to nurture academic success alongside athletic achievements.

Two-time Olympic discus thrower Matt Denny successfully completed his degree in 2023 through the program, which allowed him to balance his athletic commitments and study.

Paralympic team captain and multiple Gold Medallist Curtis McGrath OAM is making strides in his Aviation degree. The tailored support provided by Griffith University and QAS ensures that Curtis can pursue his academic goals while continuing to inspire as a formidable athlete.

Olympic Gold medallist Zac Stubblety-Cook is nearing the completion of his degree. Griffith University's flexibility has allowed him to balance the demands of his degree with the rigorous training required to reach the pinnacle of his sport.

Sprint sensation Torrie Lewis commenced her academic journey at Griffith University in 2024, studying Software Engineering. The scholarship provides Torrie with the necessary resources to balance her athletic training and academic commitments seamlessly, setting the stage for a promising future.
