QAS Kicks Off Youfor2032 Paralympic Talent Identification Sessions

07 November 2023

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) continues its exciting journey to inspire extraordinary sporting success. Over the weekend, QAS successfully commenced its #YouFor2032 Paralympic Talent Identification sessions. These sessions provide an incredible opportunity for those athletes to access high performance expertise with potential to fast track through to elite pathways.

Participants were challenged with a series of tests to showcase their agility and speed, under the expert guidance of QAS's high-performance support team. The energy, determination, and resilience on display were commendable, highlighting the indefatigable spirit of Queensland's aspiring athletes.

These sessions are just the beginning of a comprehensive program, organised by the dedicated YouFor2032 Talent team at QAS. Throughout the four-week program, this journey of athletic discovery will continue, with more exciting sessions scheduled.

In the past 12 months, the QAS conducted two Youfor2032 Para Come and Try Days with 20 aspiring Paralympians trialling the 8 sports on offer including: archery, athletics (seated throws), canoeing (sprint), cycling (track sprint/track endurance), swimming, triathlon, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.

The QAS currently supports nine Paralympic sports and 75 Paralympic athletes.

They include 3 x Paralympic gold medallist Curtis McGrath OAM, the current World Champion Wheelchair Rugby program and Chris Davis, the newly crowned World Champion Para-archer.

The QAS also supports Wheelchair Basketball and Paralympic athletes within swimming, cycling, athletics, rowing, paddle and triathlon.

The QAS extends its warm congratulations to all the participants. The future of our Paralympians, as showcased in these sessions, appears incredibly bright. We are excited to be a part of this journey with our sport partners and Paralympics Australia, supporting these athletes every step of the way in their quest to represent Queensland, and indeed Australia, on the world stage.

Stay tuned for more updates and news about these sessions and our ongoing commitment to nurturing the state's sporting talent.
