Queensland coaches collaborate to support the next generation of athletes

07 March 2024

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) has brought together coaches from its Youfor2032 talent identification program for a workshop to share knowledge on how to enhance the development of Queensland athletes.

Twenty-five coaches from across the state recently discussed learnings and opportunities for the QAS’ Youfor2032 statewide talent identification program .

Alex Roberts, Talent Identification and Development Lead at QAS said it was a key opportunity for coaches from across different sports to network, creating a strong sense of community.

“The coaching workshop was really designed to give coaches the opportunity to learn a little bit from our in-house experts in talent identification and development, but mostly a chance for them to learn from each other, sharing their experiences in the program for the last two years,” she said.

Vynika Arlow, National Pathways Coach at Diving Australia said building relationships helped when tackling challenges in sport.

“Sharing knowledge is really important for a sense of belonging, but also to learn from each other's experience, no matter what the sport is,” she said.

Scott Allison, Executive Officer at Wide Bay Sports Academy said the session was valuable to workshop challenges that regional sporting organisations faced.

“Coaching is very similar. It's just the skills that change. So that development of the athlete, the personality, getting to the heart, creating a relationship across all sports is very similar,” he said.

“The biggest thing being a regional coach is the support for regional athletes that we need to keep working with and continuing to improve.”
