21 June 2022

Two Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) supported athletes Matt Hauser and Brandon Copeland ready to take to the world stage in Birmingham.

Copeland and Hauser have been selected among the recent Team Members who have booked their tickets to Birmingham where they will be bold in gold.

Hauser, who has carried the expectation of becoming a world-class performer since his impressive junior achievements, has put himself in the picture to improve on his fourth-place finish at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

He left no doubt that his new attitude towards what it takes to become an elite performer is set to provide dividends for the exciting 24-year-old.

“That fourth place on the Gold Coast in the 2018 Commonwealth Games is still on my mind and will be pushing me towards to podium at Birmingham,” Hauser said.

“I’ve become more professional and changing my mindset about what I have to do to become an elite triathlete.”

“Part of that is knowing I am amongst the future of triathlon Australia, and I have that baton to hold going into the next few Games.”

Brandon Copeland will be making his long-awaited Games debut, watched by his proud parents who will be watching course side in Birmingham.

Australian Team Chef de Mission Petria Thomas OAM welcomed the selection of today’s triathletes who are ready to be bold in gold in Birmingham.

“Well done to the six Triathlon Team Members who are bound for Birmingham,” Thomas said.

“This is a special day for the Team Members, their coaches, their families and supporters, and I know they will be giving it their all and representing Australia proudly. They make for an exciting group, who are ready to be bold in gold in Birmingham.”

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held from Thursday 28 July to Monday 8 August with the Triathlon competitions to be conducted on Friday 29 and Sunday 31 July at Sutton Park.
