Youfor2032 achieving results as Coco pops up through pathway

05 October 2023

Coco Crafter, a 13-year-old from the Gold Coast has been named on the Australian Park Skateboard Team for the Park 2023 World Championships in Rome.

The teenager came through the Queensland Academy of Sport Youfor2032 Dare Devils skate program last year and attended the Youfor2032 Development Camp in June.

After being identified through the program, Coco was selected for the 17-person Australian team, joining fellow Queenslanders, Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Gold Medallist Keegan Palmer and X Games double Gold Medallist Arisa Trew, who recently became the first female to land a 720 in competition.

Coco is one of 4,516 young athletes who have taken part in state-wide trials to identify future Olympians and Paralympians through the Queensland Academy of Sport talent search.

It has resulted in 172 athletes currently taking part in 12-month QAS supported sports programs. Of these, four have been fast tracked into a new QAS Talent Support Program, designed to develop athletes considered genuine medal prospects in Los Angeles 2028 and leading into Brisbane 2032.

Last month, 505 young athletes who trialled in 2023 learned they will progress to the next stage with high performance expertise and support available as they train with QAS supported Olympic and Paralympic programs.

Youfor2032 is making strides through additional investment by the Queensland Government of $60.65 million over four years, as part of the green and gold runway to Brisbane 2032.

The program has allowed an athlete like Coco to be fast-tracked and compete for her country against some of the best skateboarders in the world and gain valuable experience over the coming years ahead of a home Olympic Games.

The Park 2023 World Championships in Rome run from 1 to 8 October with official competition getting underway on 4 October.
