Dream Twice QAS x BMD constructing careers for Queensland Athletes

10 June 2025

In high-performance sport, building a successful career doesn’t stop at the finish line — it’s about laying strong foundations for life beyond competition. That’s why the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) has partnered with BMD, one of Australia’s leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development companies, to create real-world employment opportunities for athletes through the Dream Twice program.

The partnership opens up job opportunities across BMD’s group of businesses, giving QAS-supported athletes a chance to develop professional skills while they train, compete, or plan for life after sport.

Established in Queensland in 1979, BMD has grown from a small family business into one of the country’s leading infrastructure and urban development firms, employing more than 2,300 people across— BMD Constructions, BMD Urban, Empower, JMac, and Urbex.

And now, they’re investing in another kind of talent: high-performance athletes.

“We’re proud to partner with QAS through the Dream Twice program,” a BMD spokesperson said. “Athletes bring discipline, drive and a strong team mindset — qualities that align with our values and contribute to success across our project sites and corporate teams. We’re excited to support their journey both on and off the field as they explore career pathways beyond sport.”

The Dream Twice program was created to help athletes prepare for life outside of sport, by connecting them with flexible, real-world employment opportunities that complement their training.

QAS Director of Partnerships Jessica Walker said BMD is a perfect fit for the program.

“Athletes are at the heart of everything we do at QAS, and this partnership with BMD creates meaningful pathways for them to grow beyond the sporting arena,” Walker said.

“BMD’s values of family, empowered, collaborative and driven strongly align with the high-performance culture we foster in sport. This partnership gives athletes the opportunity to apply their strengths, learn new skills, and thrive in every stage of their journey.
