Queensland keeps rolling as records fall and podiums stack on night four of Australian Swimming Trials

Records and podium sweeps – QAS-supported athletes delivered again on night four of the 2025 Australian Swimming Trials, locking in two Australian Records and a wave of qualifying times for the World Championships.

The backstroke queen Kaylee McKeown lit up the pool in the women’s 200m, charging to gold with a commanding 2:04.47 QT. Backed by a field stacked with six QAS-supported swimmers, Hannah Fredericks also booking a seat to Singapore, touching in 2:09.54 QT and Jenna Forrester followed in 2:11.79 to complete the clean sweep for Queensland.

In the distance freestyle, Lani Pallister delivered a historic swim in the women’s 800m freestyle, stopping the clock in 8:10.84 to set a new Australian Record. Jamie Perkins (8:26.20 QT) added silver, while Tiana Kritzinger secured bronze (8:32.77) in another all-Queensland podium.

Sprint power was on show in the men’s 100m freestyle, with Flynn Southam claiming silver in 47.69 QT and Max Giuliani taking bronze in 48.34. Seven QAS-supported athletes featured in the high-calibre final.

In the women’s 200m butterfly, Abbey Connor produced a sharp 2:07.14 QT for silver, while Elizabeth Dekkers followed closely in 2:07.36 to finish third in a tight finish.

Medley action saw Will Petric post a 1:58.25 QT in the men’s 200m IM to secure silver, with Brendon Smith taking bronze in 2:00.04.

It was also a strong showing in multi-class events. Jake Michel broke the Australian Record in the men’s MC 100m breaststroke, hitting a qualifying time in the process. Alexa Leary, Rachael Watson, Callum Simpson, and Tom Gallagher all clocked QTs in the MC 100m freestyle, while Paige Leonhardt delivered in the women’s MC 100m breaststroke.
